    Thank you, Ted, from the bottom of my heart, for taking me through such beautiful emotions! The theme (yanvalou) is very well explored. The characters—especially Emma and Manman Lèlenne—are compelling. I grew attached to them. You can see their connection to their country and culture, Emma’s transformation, and how she bridges her original culture (Haiti) with her adopted one (Switzerland).

    The story is original and realistic. It’s so believable how you use the yanvalou theme to express the characters’ feelings. Congratulations, Ted! Another great book, well written, where the spiritual imprint of cultural traditions is vividly portrayed.

    "The memory of the body" awakens a thought in me: "You can chase away nature, but it always comes back at full speed," as they say. Through her body and thanks to the yanvalou dance, Emma was able to tie the ‘invisible thread’ connecting past and present, body and spirit, Switzerland and Haiti, and two generations (the grandmother and the little girl).

    During my reading, I was transported to Haiti and its ancestral traditions. I really appreciated how Emma and the other characters explain certain terms within the narration.
